Music Taste Profile
Making the first moments in Groove more personal. Working with research and engineering, I designed an onboarding experience that turns musical preferences into a starting point for discovery.

A new listener arrives before the service knows their taste. Onboarding needed to create that first connection.
I created flows, wireframes, prototypes, motion and delivery details, working with research to identify opportunities and test the experience.
Artist and genre preferences give Groove a foundation for recommendations across desktop, mobile and Xbox.
The onboarding journey introduces personal recommendations through familiar artists and genres.
An open, visual invitation introduces the task and lets people start with artists or genres they recognize.
Artist imagery and genre tiles make the selection feel connected to music rather than to a settings form.
A completion state acknowledges the selections as Groove prepares the recommendations.
The work combined research, interaction design and motion to make onboarding useful and engaging.
The flow connects preference setting to the listener’s collection, giving favorite artists a useful place after onboarding.
I used prototypes and motion to explore how the experience unfolds, then tested it with users and refined the design.
I partnered with engineering to bring the concept to Windows 10, iOS, Android and Xbox, under Claudio Guglieri’s design supervision.
The project connected personal onboarding to discovery and engagement in Groove.
Personalized onboarding increased new-user engagement in the project’s reported results.
Initial preferences improved recommendations for listeners without an established listening history.
The work helped establish the foundation for Groove’s personalization engine across its platforms.
